Why Do I Want a TRD Pro Grille?
The new 3rd generation Toyota Tundra has a bold new look especially on the TRD Pro model featuring the TRD Pro Grille also known as the “Heritage” grille. The TRD Pro grille is visually a lot different with the TRD Light Bar in the middle of the grille which provides additional lighting when you turn on the high beams. The non-TRD Pro grille does not have a place for the light bar and it can be a huge increase in lighting performance for overlanders who want to brighten up the trails at night. Luckily, the TRD Pro Grille can be installed to your 3rd gen Tundra pretty easily and we’ll show you how.
Parts List and Install Notes
The TRD Pro Grille installation is pretty easy and it should only take about 1-2 hours depending on your choice of tools. I’ll walk you through all the tools necessary to do to install and also list out the part numbers that you need.

The OEM TRD Pro Light Bar and TRD Pro Light Bar Switch are currently not available for purchase. Part numbers have been documented however not available via Toyota Parts.
Install Directions for TRD Pro Grille
1. Remove Front Bumper Clip
1.1 Open hood and locate the 4 hex head bolts on top of the grill area.
1.2 Use a 10mm socket to remove.
1.3 Remove a total of (8) eight 10mm hex bolts underneath the bumper. There are 2 on the sides and 4 in the middle.
1.4 Remove a total of (8) eight bolts on the bottom front fender well area. There are four (4) 10mm hex bolts on each side.
1.5 Disconnect 4 plugs on top of the grille. There should be 2 on each side.
1.6 Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the 2 pop clips. There is one on each side.
1.7 Now you can remove the front bumper clip. Start on the driver side wheel well and release the bumper from the top-most factory clip. Gently use your fingers to pry around the bumper. The bumper is held into place with clips and pressure fit edges.
2. Remove Active Shutter Assembly
2.1 Place your front bumper clip on a working surface, face down on cloth so you don’t scratch the bumper.
2.2 Disconnect the Active Shutter Harness plug
2.3 Remove a total of 6 10mm hex head bolts on the Active Shutter Assembly. There are 3 on top, 3 on bottom.
3. Remove TSS Sensor and Front Camera
3.1 If your vehicle is equipped with the front facing camera, use a Philips screwdriver to remove the 2 screws on the camera bracket.
3.2 Disconnect the camera plug
3.3 Disconnect the TSS Sensor plug.
3.4 Remove 2 10mm hex head bolts (also can use Philips screwdriver) and 1 Philips head screw on the TSS Sensor.
4. Remove Grille Surrounds
4.1 The Grille Surrounds consist of 3 parts: 2 lower surrounds and 1 upper surround. We will remove the upper surround first.
4.2 Locate the 12 silver Philips head screws on the grille assembly. There are 3 on both lower corners and 6 on the top.
4.3 Locate the 10 plastic tabs on the top portion of the grille. These tabs should be the same color as your grille surrounds. I had the chrome trim on my Limited, so I looked for the chrome tabs. In this picture I only took a picture of one half of the side. There are 5 shown here, and another 5 on the other half.
Use a plastic trim removal tool or a flat head screwdriver to push in the tabs. Be careful with these tabs they are fragile.
4.4 Now we will remove the 2 lower surrounds. There are 7 plastic tabs on each surround.

5. Remove Fog Light Cover
5.1 Use a plastic trim removal tool to pry the Fog Light Cover starting from the side.
6. Remove Factory Grille
6.1 Locate and unclip the 18 plastic clips holding the grille in. These tabs should be black, the same color as the grille.
Use a plastic trim removal tool or a flat head screwdriver to push in the tabs. Be careful with these tabs they are fragile.
7. Transfer TSS Sensor and Front Camera
7.1 Pop off the 4 clips on the TSS Sensor plastic cover and transfer it over to your new grille.
7.2 Remove the 2 M6 nuts by sliding them out towards each other. Transfer them over to your new grille.
7.3 The TRD Pro Grille will not accept the other camera mount variants. You will need to install our 2022+ Tundra Camera Relocation Bracket.
8. Reinstall new TRD Pro Grille
8.1 At this step you are finished! Install the new grille in reverse order of these installation steps.
